Kente Weaving

Africa is a continent that radiates culture expressed in our clothes, food, language, music and dance, art and sculpture. Each region is speckled with a variety of traits but never loses its beauty, passion and pride for the motherland. Although formed by these arrays of expressions, our clothing stands out in a crowd; you could spot beautifully crafted African apparel and print from miles away.

Africa is our pride. It resonates with our heart. And so does the creation of the “FABRIC MAP OF AFRICA” by Mia Kora. It has revealed and generated meaningful dialogues on the authenticity of fabrics and patterns. The work of the founder is no doubt based on her love for African patterns and textiles. You cannot take the passion out of Africa. We bring alive what we hold dear. Fabrics are described as cloth or textiles made by weaving or knitting fibres. As far back as 5000 BC in Ancient Egypt, fabric production was recorded. They cultivated flax for weaving linen. It was a flourishing textile business in North Africa with raw fabrics made from tree barks, animal hides, cotton, palm, jute, flax and silk. Africans have been in the creation of simple patterns from mud and texture way before the Dutch and French introduced Batik and Tie and Dye in the form of “Ankara” and “Shweshwe”.
